The East African Safari Classic Rally has been nominated for an Asian Weekly Achievers Award in the category of Best Sports Event of the Year. “The East African Safari Classic Rally brought world recognition to Kenya and East Africa,” state the award organisers. “The concept for the Safari Classic Rally came from the original Safari Rally, a homegrown test of man and machine that brought some of history’s greatest motorsport competitors to their knees.”
“We are delighted to be nominated for such a prestigious award alongside the African Unity Games and the Festival of Friendship,” said EASCR director, Raju Kishinani. “The category features inspirational events, attended by tens of thousands of people, all of whom believe in the healing power of shared passion for sport. It is an honour to be amongst such exalted company’.
Safari Classic looks forward
“The last three months have not been easy,” continues Kishinani. “We’ve been forced to say goodbye to three much-loved members of our team and simultaneously embarked upon the challenge of reviewing our most recent event, reaching out to competitors and global motorsport’s governing body, to ensure we learn as much as possible and implement the most insightful improvements ahead of the next Safari Classic in 2019. We are focused on maintaining the Safari Classic Rally’s position at the pinnacle of historic motorsport and offer sincere thanks to all those who have been in touch with constructive feedback and positive messages of support through sad times of late. It is much appreciated.”
