#Kenya’s revamp of narrow gauge railway to Nanyuki nears completion

RAILWAY REVAMP BRINGS RAIL SERVICES CLOSER TO NORTHERN KENYA

(Posted 08th May 2020)

Kenya Railways has reportedly largely completed the maintenance and refurbishment work on the narrow gauge railway line, which leads to Nanyuki in central Kenyan highlands.
Ready for relaunch in June or July, according to sources in Nairobi, will the line then be able to allow for cargo operations to and from this part of the country, taking trucking capacity off the stressed road system.
President Kenyatta, while inspecting portions of the work, commented that the towns along the railway line, including Karatina, will no doubt benefit economically from the resumption of rail services.

It could not be established from Kenya Railways if passenger services are planned or if the scenic route could in the future be used by MICE operators to offer train rides for conference and meeting delegates.

It could also not be confirmed at this time, if the initially announced extension of this railway line from Nanyuki to Isiolo is still going to take place, and if so what the time frame will be.
