Kenya’s travel agents welcome Mikosz departure

KENYA’S TRAVEL AGENTS SAY GOOD RIDDANCE TO SEBASTIAN MIKOSZ

(Posted 04th June 2019)

We need a CEO who understands Kenya, who is not losing touch with the market, who engages with key stakeholders, who works closely with travel agents‘ answered one leading travel agent in Nairobi to ATCNews’ question about the sentiments expressed by their trade association KATA a few days ago.
KATA and leading travel agents expressed their disappointment about Kenya Airways’ performance under Sebastian Mikosz, who came into office riding on past credentials as a turnaround CEO but failed to deliver a quick turnaround.
Following his announcement to resign prematurely from his job have the proverbial knives come out and those who for tactical reasons tried in the past to stay on his good side to court favours too have now jumped ship and demanded for the recruitement of a Kenyan CEO with greater competence and a better understanding of the local conditions.
Usually well informed sources have also confirmed that the board of directors of Kenya Airways was split down the middle with half of the members reportedly relieved that Mikosz has thrown in the towel while the other half wanted to give him more time to achieve tangible results.
It is understood that it was the thumbs down from Chairman Michael Joseph which decided Mikosz fate when he tendered his resignation to the board though the blame game against both chairman and board directors has also started in the meantime.
