According to information received will the runway of the Kisoro aerodrome continue to be closed, as per the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority ‘until further notice‘.
Local tourism operators have voiced sharp complaints to ATCNews about the continued closure as tourists, who otherwise would fly to Kisoro to shorten the journey time, now have to divert to either Kihihi or airfields even further away.
‘This stinks to heaven‘ ranted one regular commentator before adding: ‘One wonders how serious these guys in Entebbe are about tourism. This closure has affected us badly and clients complain about the day long road trip from Kampala instead of an hour’s flight. But I suppose they had only eyes for the summits and to complete work at the airport there and we in Kisoro were simply sidetracked. Shameful, but then what’s new‘.
Needless to say did the source insist on anonymity to avoid any repercussions, which one knows can be swift and merciless.
Aerolink Uganda has also confirmed to ATCNews that their scheduled flights to Kisoro remain suspended until the airfield is open again. They wrote: ‘As we await official communication from the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority, Kisoro airstrip closure has been extended until further notice.
Our operations team is notifying agents/clients on their flight updates and/or changes for the day.
For more information, please email info@aerolinkuganda.com or Call +256 31 7333000 and WhatsApp us on +256 776 882203.
For any passengers booked to/from Kisoro, please advise us on an alternative airstrip. Our alternative to Kisoro is either Mbarara or Kihihi airstrips.’
