Welcome to the last issue of Kreol Magazine for 2014. By the time you read this edition, the festive season will be in full swing. We, and you, our readers, shall be planning the celebrations. 2014 has been an exciting and productive year for us as we have visited new places and explored even more diverse Creole cultures across the globe.

In the last three issues, we featured some amazing people, from entrepreneurs, musicians, artists to politicians and athletes. We reviewed fascinating destinations, discovered beautiful art and looked deeper into the Creole culture, its roots, traditions and values.

In this issue we feature celebrities, Jamie Foxx (p. 8); Lupita Nyongo’o (p. 20); Sidney Poitier (p. 26); politician; Mayor of Opelousas, Louisiana, Donald Cravins (p. 2) and diplomats; Dame Pearlette Louisy, Governor General of St. Lucia (p. 30); H.E. Francine Baron, High Commissioner for Dominica in the UK (p. 36) and H.E. Carlos dos Santos, High Commissioner for Mozambique in the UK (p. 40).

Our history section has two fascinating stories. One of Abram Gannibal, a seven year old boy who was kidnapped and enslaved in Africa, but made it to a position of a General and nobleman in Imperial Russia (p. 44). Kreol has uncovered the Polish soldiers, who fought in Napoleon’s army, but who defected to help Haitian slaves to fight for their independence, and after their victory settled in Haiti (p. 48). Creole culture is very inclusive, where everyone comes together, bringing their own unique flavour to enhance the whole. This is what we try to achieve in Kreol Magazine. You will find articles on Musicians, Sportsmen, Art, Fashion, Culture, Nature and Social Issues from many corners of our planet. Our Travel section is bigger than ever as we discover new places and interesting destinations.

We hope that our delicious recipes will get your Christmas spirit up in the anticipation for the festive season. Next year, we expect to bring you even more of what symbolises the striking Creole culture, from its diversity and togetherness to celebrating the spirit of austerity with happiness and satisfaction.

Happy reading!
