NEW MUSEUM IN THE MAKING ON SEYCHELLES’ THIRD MOST POPULATED ISLAND

The Union Estate on the Seychelles’ island of La Digue will be the home of a new museum which is expected to be completed and open for visitors by mid next year.
The museum is being developed in a partnership of the Seychelles Heritage Foundation and the L’Union Estate, which itself is a heritage site in its own right and attracts many of the visitors streaming into La Digue on the daily ferries from Praslin island.
The main estate mansion has been restored on the L’Union Estate and serves as a focal point for visitors, who also regularly walk along the world renowned Source d’Argent beach which is part of the estate.
The island was named in 1768 after a French warship but records indicate it was only settled around 1789 when a group of French previously residing on Reunion Island, arrived to farm the island.
In less than three weeks will one of the Seychelles’ major religious festivals take place on La Digue, the Feast of Assumption, celebrated every year on the 15th of August. Travel to the island for the festival as well as accommodation on the island over the festival period, is expected to be sold out once again.
