SEYCHELLES LARGEST RELIGIOUS FESTIVAL WEEK GOES UNDERWAY
(Posted 11th August 2017)
Starting today will the piers at Praslin and La Digue be closed for vehicular traffic according to information received from the capital Victoria to ensure safe transfers from and to incoming and outgoing ferries between Mahe, Praslin and La Digue.
This is the week of the Feast of Assumption, celebrated every 15th of August but becoming more popular every year with local and in particular foreign visitors.
The Seychelles government has also stepped up controls on vessels plying the waters to and from La Digue to prevent another incident like seen and reported here last year.
The added safety measures will no doubt help to safely deliver locals and tourists alike over the next few days and then bring them back after the festival.
Activities on La Digue are commencing today and the festivities will reach their peak on the 15th when a long procession followed by a mass will take place.
