In a surge of recovery and significant growth for the Indian Ocean cruise sector, the island of La Réunion enthusiastically welcomed today the first call of MSC Poesia. This event marks a major milestone in the recovery of the sector, which, after being severely hit by the COVID crisis, is showing signs of strength and expansion.

In 2023, the sector recorded an attendance of 22,020 passengers across 29 calls, a sign of a recovery colored by a strategy decidedly oriented towards sustainability. The introduction of new companies in the previous season played a key role in this positive dynamic, reflecting the industry’s commitment to more responsible tourism.

The inaugural call of MSC Poesia at La Réunion continues this positive trend. The ceremonial exchange of plaques between local authorities and the ship’s crew symbolized the mutual desire to strengthen ties and support the sector’s growth. Local authorities expressed their satisfaction and optimism about the future of cruising in the region, highlighting the importance of this industry for the economic and tourist development of the island.

The regional strategy for market diversification, which includes the development of the cruise sector, aims to attract an international clientele eager to discover the riches and beauty of the Indian Ocean islands. The arrival of visitors from all over the world offers a valuable opportunity for local tourism stakeholders to expand their horizons, exchange knowledge, and promote the unique culture of La Réunion.

This first call of MSC Poesia represents not only an important milestone for the cruise sector at La Réunion but also a promising sign for the future, testifying to the industry’s resilience and adaptability to challenges. La Réunion continues to position itself as a prime destination in the Indian Ocean, ready to welcome the world with hospitality and diversity
