Latest arrival statistics put critics of tourism board and ministry to shame

NEW VISITOR RECORD AS SEYCHELLES BREAK THROUGH THE 250.000 VISITOR MARK

(Posted 12th December 2015)

Effective 06th of December have more than 254.000 visitors set foot on the paradise islands of the Seychelles, an upswing of some 20 percent compared to a year ago when a new visitor record was established too.

With a population of just 90.000 people is this a massive achievement and testament to the successful marketing of the Seychelles in overseas markets. While the European countries still lead in the number game have others like China gained ground on them. This trend will be further solidified when Air Seychelles early next year begins weekly charter flights from Beijing, giving travel from China a massive boost and a most welcome one according to tourism sources on the archipelago. However, the European market is also up by some 11 percent totaling arrivals of over 160.000 so far and still more than two weeks to go this year.

Tourism and Culture Minister Alain St. Ange attributed the success in bringing record numbers of visitors to the island to the spirit of togetherness and the constant positive engagement and interaction between the Ministry, the Tourism Board and the private sector. The Minister also reiterated that Germany’s Condor will add a second weekly flight from September 2016 which may yet see Germany reclaiming the crown as the country with the most tourists sent to the Seychelles, a title they lost to France this year by a margin of over 1.000 visitors.
