We hope your year has started off as productive and positive as it has here at MWCT! We want to take the time to share some quick 2018 impact stats and what we’ve been up to this new year!

2018 ANNUAL STATS

THANK YOU – You have helped make 2018 a successful year for our Conservation, Livelihoods, Education and Health programmes. We couldn’t do it without all of your support! Here are just a few key stats.
CONSERVATION: RANGER PATROLS – Over the years, through using S.M.A.R.T (Spatial Monitoring and Reporting tool) to map out the patrol routes, our Rangers have been able to better strategize their positions and cover more ground! Below shows the increase in ground cover since 2015.
2018 vs 2017 – There was a decrease in the total kilometers patrolled in 2018 compared to 2017. This was due to a change in patrolling strategy, Rangers were needed to be stationed at the top of hills rather than on normal walking routes.
HEALTH 2018 – The Health programme team covered nearly 5000 km on the ground, moving between 5 different health facilities and visiting several bomas (homes) for immunizations and health awareness workshops. This resulted in a significant increase in overal patients seen and treated in 2018.
EDUCATION 2018 – Our Education programme continues to support an increase of students every year. As enrollment increases, we’ve also noticed a significant number of female students as well, the ratio between boys/girls is nearly 50/50!
LIVELIHOODS 2018 – Our Livelihoods programme continues to support the 13 women’s groups throughout Kuku Group Ranch with alternative income practices. We expanded our Grass Seed Bank pilot project to 3 more plots that will provide more women and families with income from the selling of seeds and hay they’ve harvested.

2019 UPDATE

Our team has had a busy start – below are some of our main stats from the Conservation and Health programmes! Your support and passion in helping us continue our work on the ground is crucial. With 283,000 acres of wilderness, diverse wildlife, critical forests and approximately 17-19,000 community members to support – every helping hand makes a difference.
CONSERVATION 2019 – Our Ranger’s continue to patrol the area from illegal practices and remain on track with their target distances. The Simba Scouts were concentrated on mitigating human-wildlife conflicts and often were required to stay and monitor areas with high risks of predation.
HEALTH 2019 – Our Health team continues to provide healthcare services available to a community of nearly 17-19,000 members. It has already been a significant start to the year with a big increase in patients seen since 2018 of the same month.
