Kenya Railways has announced a change of departure times for their SGR trains commonly referred to as Madaraka Express.
Affected will be trains in both directions, leaving from Nairobi and Mombasa and again both morning and afternoon trains.
The intercounty train will leave Nairobi as of Wednesday next week at 08.20 hrs (a.m.) and will stop enroute in Athi River (08.40 hrs), Emali (09.47 hrs), Kibwezi (10.32 hrs), Mtito Andei (11.20 hrs), Voi (12.29 hrs), Miasenyi (13.04 hrs), Mariakani (13.49 hrs) and finally reach the new Mombasa Terminal at 14.18 hrs.
The nonstop express train will leave Nairobi at 14.35 hrs (p.m.) and reach the Mombasa Terminal at 19.18 hrs.

The trains from the coast will leave Mombasa in the morning – again as an intercounty train – at 08.00 hrs (a.m.) and stop at Mariakani (08.24 hrs), Miasenyi (09.09 hrs), Voi (09.43 hrs), Mtito Andei (10.52 hrs), Kibwezi (11.25 hrs), Emali (12.09 hrs), Athi River (13.16 hrs) and then reach the Nairobi Terminal at 13.42 hrs.
The nonstop express train will leave Mombasa at 15.15 hrs (p.m.) and reach the Nairobi Terminal at 20.14 hrs.

Tickets, besides physically going to the station which is located beyond Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and paying in cash, can presently only be purchased online by holders of an MPesa account as credit cards continue to be unacceptable methods of payment by Kenya Railways.
Wannabe passengers in particular from abroad, not having access to MPesa accounts, therefore have to use a reputable and licenced travel agent like Let’s Go Travel Uniglobe in Nairobi to buy their tickets and then pay them through bank transfer or with their credit cards.
