MAGICAL KENYA TRAVEL EXPO DATES ANNOUNCED
(Posted 25th July 2014)
The Kenya Tourism Board yesterday announced the dates for this year’s Magical Kenya Tourism Expo, taking place between 08th and 10th of October at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre in Nairobi. Muriithi Ndegwa, the CEO of KTB, had this to say: ‘We have witnessed reduced numbers of tourists’ arrivals more so due to the security threats and travel advisories that have been issued by some of the major markets, for example, United Kingdom and US. We have continued with assurance campaigns through our marketing development representatives and for example, we have been on a reassurance missions in key markets. Recently, we undertook a mission to US and UK together with the Cabinet Secretary for East African Affairs Commerce and Tourism, Cabinet Secretary Phyllis Kandie’.
It is understood that about half of the targeted exhibitors have already taken up booths and exhibition spaces at KICC. Like in past years will KTB host a number of buyers and showcase the country to them with a glimpse of what the safari circuit has to offer to tourists while also inviting local, regional and international media to give coverage and exposure to the destination.
Muriithi also announced that the Kenyan government had promised half a billion Kenya Shillings for marketing the country in the 2014/15 financial year, although some sources from within the private sector claim that the 200 million promised by Cabinet Secretary Kandie several months ago is still to be transferred to KTB’s accounts.
