Mahe – Johannesburg soon going to five times a week

AIR SEYCHELLES ANNOUNCES FIFTH FLIGHT TO SOUTH AFRICA JUST DAYS AFTER ADDING FOURTH

(Posted 26th February 2016)

When the Seychelles Tourism Board earlier this week opened their new office in Johannesburg did Air Seychelles add to the sustained marketing drive to attract more South Africans to visit the Seychelles, by announcing a fourth weekly flight between the Paradise islands and Johannesburg.
This move was on the side of Air Seychelles preceded by the announcement that flights to and from Dar es Salaam would be dropped.
Now, just four days later, has the airline’s Chief Executive Roy Kinnear gone on record that effective 17th March will a fifth flight be added, also to be operated by Airbus A320 equipment.
The Thursday flight joins the two other A320 operated services on Wednesday and Friday while the weekend departures on Saturday and Sunday use the Airbus A330.
In addition did Air Seychelles point out that code shared flights, operated by South African Airways, connect travelers to the archipelago also to Cape Town, Durban, Port Elizabeth and East London.
South Africa saw the number of travelers to the Seychelles rise to over 13.000 last year and this figure is now bound to go up even further, as resorts and even smaller accommodation providers have joined hands to put attractively priced offers on the market which the STB Johannesburg office is actively promoting now.
Flying times remain the same for all five flights with HM 061 leaving Mahe at 09.25 hrs, arriving in Johannesburg at 12.35 hrs while the return flight leaves JNB at 14.00 hrs and lands back home at 20.55 hrs, all times local.
A source close to the airline suggested that once the added capacity has been taken up might more flights be added to eventually provide a daily service between South Africa and the Seychelles.
Other destinations out of Africa into the archipelago are operated by Kenya Airways and Ethiopian Airlines, connecting the rest of the continent to the islands, where apart from the requirement for a Yellow Fever inocculation certificate no Visa are required to enter as a tourist.
