SEYCHELLES CAA SPENDING 125 MILLION RUPEES ON AIRPORT UPGRADES

The Seychelles’ Minister for Foreign Affairs and Transport Joel Morgan was spot on when a few days ago he made it clear during a visit to the international airport that a five star destination needs a five star airport to have tourists’ arrival and departure experiences match the destination experience.
He reportedly made the comments when inspecting progress made on various ongoing projects underway, among them the advanced construction for the expansion of the domestic terminal and the planned expansion of the international arrival lounge. The minister also mentioned that a transit lounge would be created to cater for the growing number of passengers using Air Seychelles from across the Indian Ocean islands and the African mainland to travel to onward destinations like Mumbai, Abu Dhabi, Hong Kong or Paris, or vice versa. Air Seychelles expanded medium haul network with more flights to Mauritius, Antananarivo and two weekly flights to and from Dar es Salaam have led to a sharp rise in transit passenger numbers with in particular Mumbai, now also served four times a week already, the destination of choice by travelers from those airports of origin.
The minister was met and shown around by the SCAA Chairman Capt. David Savy, the SCAA Chief Executive Mr. Gilbert Faure and other airport officials.
In the more recent past was the parking apron expanded to cater for the growing number of private jets, some of them in fact wide bodied aircraft, the launch of a VIP passenger terminal where private jet passengers are handled as well as technical facilities of air traffic control management upgraded to make the SCAA the most technologically advanced in the Indian Ocean region.
