Political unrest, youth and media: Risks, opportunities, and destinations on the fringe

The work of the local journalist or media correspondent reporting as a witness to calamity or triumph is now shared, like it or not, with many hands and hashtags. Youth are critical to the evolution of culture and socio-political change, taking on activist roles both on the ground and via social media. Of course activism does not come without risk – nor do some selfies.

A panel of experts in travel, cultural exchange, media and destination development will discuss their thoughts on the current state of travel and risk in our uncertain social and political times, what incidents and events influence a destination’s image and reputation, and what appeals to or averts young travellers.
