AIRLINKS KEY TO DRAW MORE VISITORS TO MAURITIUS
(Posted 21st December 2016)
Air Mauritius has been intensifying efforts to promote visits to the island. Two workshops were recently organized in Seoul and Tokyo by the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority in short MTPA, the Changi Airport Group and Air Mauritius.
Other stakeholders from Mauritius also included the Beachcomber Hotel, Constance Hotels, Lux Resorts, One & Only Le Saint Géran, Outrigger Enterprise Group, Shangri-La Tousserok, Aquasun, Happy Planet and In Tune Travel. The workshops follow similar initiatives held earlier in the year in Singapore, Indonesia, and Taiwan but also on Mauritius itself, fellow Vanilla Island members Reunion, Madagascar and on the African mainland in Mozambique and Tanzania.
Over 80 travel agents and tour operators attended the eventd in Tokyo and in Seoul, making a success of the initiative.
Press briefings were also held with local media for a wider reach of the promotional activities.
The Asia-Africa Air Corridor was inaugurated in March 2016 to provide better travel options between the two continents through the hubs in Mauritius and Singapore. Between April and November 2016, the Mauritius-Singapore-Kuala Lumpur route has generated a 20% growth in traffic with more than 25,000 passengers carried.
To give added traction and momentum to the Air Corridor initiative was a new codeshare agreement signed between Air Mauritius and Singapore Airlines two months ago.
