Mohammed Hersi Re-elected Unopposed to Head a New Look MCTA Team
Mohammed Hersi was elected as the Chairman of MCTA unopposed yesterday, albeit in absentia. Mr. Hersi is also the Regional General Manager of Sarova Hotels Coast Region. To those who know him, and those who meet him, he comes across as a hard worker and a person of very high integrity. This would explain why all members were unanimous in electing their selfless chairman for another 2-year term.
The Mombasa and Coast Tourist Association (MCTA)Annual General Meeting was held at the Sarova Whitesands Beach Resort & Spa, a multiple award winning hospitality establishment at the Kenyan Coast. The event was graced by Tourism P.S Amb. Ruth S. Solitei, Mombasa County Tourism Representative Anthony Njaramba and the managing director of Lap Trust Hosea Kili Who were the main sponsors of the event.

The event that was heavily attended, by members, non-members and tourism stakeholders saw the entry of a New Vice Chairman, Mr. Philimon Mwavala Southern Sky Safaris Ltd. from Malindi. He will replace long serving Vice-Chairman and former Chairman of MCTA, Mr John Cleave of Mombasa Air Services. Also joining the executive board was new Board Member representing hotels Captain Silvester-Mbandi of Voyager Beach Resort. He replaces Poona Mehta of S.S Mehta Construction Company Limited and Royal Court Hotel based in Mombasa. Noorudin Tejpar Farways Safaricentre Ltd and Khalid Shapi of Pollmans respectively retained their positions as Board Members representing Allied Businesses and Tour companies respectively. A new entrant to the MCTA Board is the beautiful and youthful Lucy Khor of Canton Malaysian Chinese Restaurant in Mombasa Island. This is after long serving treasurer of 15 years Mohammed Harunany of Mombasa Air Services stepped down due to work commitments that have kept him busy in the last year.
Other members who were elected to serve as board members include Andrew Muir of Severin Sea Lodge, Michael Kai of Reef Hotels and youthful John Weyule of Lotus Hotel. We would wish to take this opportunity the welcome our newly elected Board under the very able leadership of Mohammed Hersi to take us to the next level as we continue to champion for tourism rights at the Kenyan Coast and the country as a whole. I believe congratulations are in order for all newly elected Board members.
