AIRCRAFT COLLISION AT MOGADISHU AIRPORT CAUSES BIG DAMAGE TO TWO AIRCRAFT

A ground incident at the international airport in Mogadishu yesterday, involving an Embraer 120ER aircraft flying for the European Union’s Delegation to Somalia and a LET410 operated by Galeyr Airlines caused significant damage to both planes.
The Embraer with a Kenyan registration 5Y-CEI, MSN 120121, first entered service in 1989 and was until now operated by Air Traffic Africa for the EU. The LET410, registered in the Ukraine as UR-VTV first entered service in 1981.
No information could be obtained what led to the ground collision of the two aircraft but from the picture it would appear that the Embraer struck the rear end of the LET410, damaging its own wing and left engine but also the hull of the LET410.
The reported fuel spill was contained and no fire broke out after using foam spray.
An official air accident investigation is now going underway to establish the cause to the incident, in which no one was injured.
