A Kenyan registered DHC Dash 8-400, 5Y=SMJ, MSN 4013 and first put into service in 2000, owned by 748 Aviation and operated for the UN Support Office in Somalia, suffered a technical problem with the nose gear when attempting to land at Baidoa,
The crew subsequently decided to return to Mogadishu – from where the flight originated – and landed the aircraft there without the nose gear as emergency services stood by.
All 17 passengers and the crew were safely evacuated from the aircraft.
An air accident investigation is now going underway to establish the cause of the technical problem.
