More aircraft in the sky, more busses on the ground. Kenya Airways goes places.

NEW AIRCRAFT ARE FOLLOWED BY NEW BUSSES AS KENYA AIRWAYS EXPANDS

(Posted 07th August 2014)

Hot on the heels of receiving a third B787-8 Dreamliner has Kenya Airways yesterday taken delivery of three of five ordered airside passenger busses with two more joining in a few weeks’ time.

The ongoing fleet expansion and lack of enough terminal side parking positions often requires passengers to be taken to a distant parking position where they board or else from their parking position to the arrivals terminal, which can only be reached by bus.

Kenya Airways, Managing Director, Dr. Titus Naikuni confirmed the delivery of the airside transfer buses and he explained that the buses will be used to ferry the airline’s departing and arriving guests.

Dr. Naikuni said that by maintaining an own fleet of air side transfer buses Kenya Airways will be seeking to optimize its customer convenience and improving its on-time departures due to more timely aircraft boarding and disembarkation.

The buses, with a capacity of 100 passengers each, will be available for the exclusive use of Kenya Airways guests and its SkyTeam and other partner airlines and will complement the existing fleet of passenger busses KQ operates at JKIA.

The airline, Dr. Naikuni added, has also placed an order for two more air side transfer buses from COBUS, the market leader in Airport buses manufacturing to be delivered in the next four weeks. The arrival of the buses will push KQ’s air side transfer bus fleet to eleven as the airline already operates six such buses at JKIA.

‘The expansion of JKIA has brought with it positive challenges which we are taking working hard to address including acquiring our own fleet of air side transfer buses to ease the plight of our arriving and departing guests. Guests on KQ will now be enjoying faster transfers to and from the air side now that we have received our own additional air side buses’
