RWANDAIR SET FOR ENTEBBE – NAIROBI LAUNCH ON 10TH JANUARY
(Posted 06th January 2015)
RwandAir, fast becoming Uganda’s ‘adopted’ airline after the demise of Air Uganda, has confirmed that they will launch flights on the route from Entebbe to Nairobi on the 10th of January, i.e. this coming Saturday.
RwandAir was granted 5th freedom rights by the Ugandan CAA to step into the void created by the halt of operations by Air Uganda [extensively reported
about here in the past] and first launched flights from Entebbe to Juba before setting their eyes on Nairobi. Initially blocked by the Kenyan CAA did it take a directive from the Heads of State of the Northern Corridor Cooperation, when they met for their last summit on the 11th of December in Nairobi, to break the deadlock.
Kenya in turn was swift to positioning her own airlines when yesterday Jambojet was granted route rights to, among other destination, Entebbe, Juba and Kigali, clearly setting the stage for cutthroat competition in which fares will play a major role but also of course service levels, where RwandAir has clearly one up on low cost carriers.
RwandAir will use either their Boeing B737-800s or their Bombardier CRJ900NextGen, both offering business and economy class, for the Nairobi route, which will turn Entebbe into RwandAir’s second hub after Kigali.
Travel agents have in advance of the launch of these flights, initially there will be two a day between Entebbe and Nairobi, already pledged their support for RwandAir, which has convinced the Ugandan market with affordable fares, punctuality, good inflight services and the option to join ‘Dream Miles’ the RwandAir frequent flyer programme which offers cardholders a range of added services.
