More flights, more seats and hopefully more passengers heading to the Seychelles

MORE FLIGHTS FOR SEYCHELLES

(Posted 04th November 2014)

Mihin Lanka last week added their third weekly flight between Colombo and Mahe, offering a third more seats on a route which appears to tap into markets way beyond the island itself, bringing traffic from across the Mihin and Sri Lankan networks to the Seychelles. The two state owned airlines are cooperating and while Mihin is seen as a hybrid low cost carrier – even though operating with a two class configuration on board and offering a complimentary meal service – compared to full service airline Sri Lankan, both cooperate to sell tickets to Mahe with Sri Lankan passengers being able to get a through fare via Colombo when using the airline from across its Asian and Indian network.

Meanwhile did news emerge that the Seychelles government and tourism board and Germany’s Condor airline are in renewed talks to bring a second weekly flight to the Seychelles, as demand from that country remains strong and rising. Condor is the only airline flying nonstop to Mahe while the Air Berlin / Etihad partnership routes all their flights via Abu Dhabi, adding one stop enroute.

The Seychelles have been struggling a little this year to add yet another arrival record to the impressive performance of the last several years but is at present just about even with last year’s record breaking performance, but has nearly two months left now to see numbers pull ahead. The challenges of 2014 have also resulted in reviewing Seychelles’ sales and marketing strategy, tweaking and finetuning efforts for different market places and re-aligning marketing budgets accordingly. The recent addition of two more flights by Emirates, as was reported here, will further help to market the destination as there are now double daily flights between Dubai and Mahe.

In a related development was it confirmed that the Seychelles delegation at the ongoing World Travel Market is in high spirits and confident to land enough business to make the rest of this year and 2015 fulfill the tourism industry’s hopes and expectations.
