Following the launch of nonstop flights in early December from Mahe to Mumbai, using an Airbus A320 in a two class configuration, has Air Seychelles yesterday announced the launch of a further 21 codeshared flights to Mumbai, via Abu Dhabi.

The flights will be operated by Etihad, Air Seychelles’ equity partner, and link conveniently to the 13 weekly flights the two airlines have between Mahe and Abu Dhabi.

When Air Seychelles in December, in rapid succession, launched flights from Mahe to Dar es Salaam and Antananarivo did Alan Renaud confirm to this correspondent at the inaugural flight celebrations in Dar es Salaam confirm that they were targeting transit traffic from Tanzania and Madagascar to Mumbai with the fastest and most direct connection for passengers.

When announcing the added three per day codeshared flights via Abu Dhabi yesterday did Manoj Papa, CEO of Air Seychelles say: ‘We are excited to enhance our connectivity to Mumbai through this expanded codeshare, which builds on our three-per-week direct service to this metropolitan city.Put together, these flights offer travellers more choice, flexibility and convenience, including daily connections to our archipelago and the option of combining a direct flight to Seychelles with a stopover in Abu Dhabi on the return journey, or vice-versa.Our travelling proposition, which already offers the fastest air links from India to Seychelles, Tanzania and Madagascar, has now become even more appealing with this development. We will continue to work closely with Etihad Airways in order to strengthen our network and look forward to driving more tourism traffic from the Indian Subcontinent to and through Seychelles’.

Air Seychelles operates a fleet of two Airbus A330-200 aircraft in a two class configuration and in December took delivery of their third jet, an Airbus A320, also in a two class configuration. For domestic routes does the airline use six DHC Twin Otters for scheduled flights to Praslin and charters across the archipelago and one Short 360 which was converted to carry cargo.
