Paul Sherwen
It is with great sadness that we share the news of the death of Paul Sherwen, aged 62, at his home in Uganda last weekend. Paul was a patriot of the 10to4 Mountain Bike Challenge and long term friend and supporter of the Mount Kenya Trust.
Paul was a highly respected commentator and broadcaster who started out as a road race cyclist in the late 1970’s. During his career he took part in seven Tour de France events and won the British Road Race Championships in 1987. In the years that followed his cycling career Paul’s voice has been synonymous with the Tour de France, each year commentating with his co-worker and friend Phil Liggett for 33 years.
Since being invited to become a patron of the 10to4 Paul had not missed a single event, and has been there to support the organising team and the participants every single year. His heart was very much in East Africa and charities that support cycling in Africa. Tributes from all over the world have been pouring in on the media since the news of his passing broke on Sunday morning.
The Mount Kenya Trust team and Directors send huge condolences to his wife Katherine, his children, his friends and the legions of fans at this very difficult time.
Thank you Paul for all you have done help our own event, and the cycling charities and people you have mentored over the years. Thank you for championing cycling all over the world.
We remember you fondly and will miss your support, professionalism and humour at the 10to4 Mountain Bike Challenge. Next year will be tough without you.
