#MountKenyaTrust News Updates January 2020

2019 was a year of fire fighting, tree planting, one way elephant gates and water harvesting.

Why not join our mountain team for some conservation activities this year? 10 ways to help below:

1. Take part in the 10to4 Mountain Race
With more and more events each year, there really is something for everyone. Whether it’s on two wheels, horseback or self-propelled e-bike, come and join us for a weekend of mountain adventures for every age group and ability. Places are filling fast so register now!

2. Come and plant some trees
We have planted over one million indigenous trees on Mt Kenya – help us reach two! Watch out for our events around March and October (our two planting seasons).

3. Join our Mountain Membership
Coming soon for exclusive mountain activities! Register your interest with bookings

4. Be part of the MKT Festival
From school art competitions, films and talks around town, we want to get people talking about Mt Kenya! Join the FB group here.

5. Follow us on social media – Facebook and Instagram
All of our news and updates are regularly posted so please follow us to keep up to date!

6. Hike the mountain
Join the Mt Kenya Climb in 2020 – dates to be released soon. Lake Ellis, Lake Michaelson, Point Lenana and beyond! Register your interest at bookings

7. Pick up ten pieces of rubbish and always say no to plastic straws and bottles
The amount of rubbish and litter we find all over the mountain is frightening. Last year, we did a litter pick on World Environment Day and this year we plan to collect kilometres of rubbish. Let’s say no to single-use plastic because we don’t want it on our mountain or in our rivers.

8. Visit our website and read about all of the projects we do
Water, fire, people, forest and wildlife – we work holistically to protect the mountains. Read more here.

9. Sponsor someone taking part in the 10to4
Don’t fancy the event this year but still want to help? All riders are asked to support their entry with sponsorship so if you know anyone taking part in the event, why not ask them for their sponsorship form.
