Paulo Zucula, a former Minister for Transport and Communications and Manuel Chang, a former Minister for Economy and Finance, have been named key suspects in an ongoing corruption case over the construction of Nacala International Airport.
Zucula is presently in custody it was learned and had a court appearance already mid week.
Both men are suspected to have received at least 135.000 US Dollars and 285.000 US Dollars respectively though Brazilian construction firm Odebrecht has admitted to making over 900.000 US Dollars in payments prior and during construction of the airport.
Zucula joins one Emiliano Finocchi in remand, who has been arrested earlier under related charges.
Mega projects have often been riddled with corruption allegations and Odebrecht is not stranger to corruption charges, having been convicted for the same in different jurisdictions but appears still involved in the hugely controversial hydro electric plant project in Tanzania’s Selous Game Reserve.
