Nairobi – a magnet for international hotel groups

MOEVENPICK SET TO OPEN THEIR FIRST HOTEL IN NAIROBI IN 2016

Information from the recently ended Africa Hotel Investment Summit in Addis Ababa suggests that Swiss hotel group Moevenpick will open its first hotel in Kenya by the middle of next year

Already under construction will the new property inject some 223 additional rooms and suites into the Nairobi market besides offering longer stay guests the option to take residence in one and two bedroom serviced apartments.

Also pushing back into Kenya is Starwood with a Four Points Sheraton under construction at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport as is Hilton widening its footprint in Nairobi with a new Hilton Garden Inn, also near the airport.

Rezidor’s Radisson Blu Nairobi opening is now just about three weeks away while Best Western is also on an expansion drive through new franchises, one near the airport in Kisumu while another is reportedly being built in Nairobi too where the present Best Western Premier is doing exceedingly well.

In contrast to the drive by international branded hotels to enter the Kenyan market, if rumours are to be believed, may Fairmont exit Kenya as some of their key properties are reportedly up for sale if not already sold.

Additional hotel developments come hot on the heels of a deal signed last week between the Kenyatta International Convention Centre and national airline Kenya Airways, which aims to jointly promote MICE events to come to Nairobi, where a growing number of quality four and five star beds now permits to even host mega events like the Global Entrepreneurship Summit in July.
