LANET AIRSTRIP UPGRADE TO START NEXT MONTH AS NAKURU SEEKS TO ATTRACT MORE TOURISTS

Nakuru County Governor Lee Kinyanjui told the recent KATA Annual General Meeting, which was held at the Enashipai Resort in Naivasha, that the county government has set aside an initial 400 million Kenya Shillings for the improvement of the Lanet airfield.
While the opening of tenders is expected before the end of the month have details emerged of the workscope when construction goes underway.
First to be done will be a runway extension to 1.7 kilometres in length, allowing twin turbo prop aircraft to land there.
To expand the airstrip did the county acquire some 700 acres of land to facilitate the expansion of the runway.
Kinyanjui also told KATA delegates that plans were underway to construct a Lake Naivasha water front development to make access for visiting tourists easier and provide facilities for them from where they can take boat rides on the lake, have a meal and shop.
Lanet airstrip, when complete, will no doubt offer tourists on flying safaris swift access to Lake Nakuru National Park, renowned around the world for its flamingos but also as one of Kenya’s main sanctuaries for rhinos and Rothschild giraffes.
