National Geographic names Uganda as their top destination of the year

UGANDA NAMED AS NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC’S NUMBER ONE DESTINATION OF THE YEAR

News is emerging from Washington DC that National Geographic has voted Uganda as its number one destination, giving a further boost to promoting the country as Africa’s preferred safari destination.
This comes hot on the heels of the Rough Guides putting Uganda in fourth position worldwide for adventure travel.
Dr. Andrew Seguya, Executive Director of the Uganda Wildlife Authority, is presently in Washington DC on a visit to National Geographic when the news were shared with him.
In fourty days will Uganda hold the third edition of the Pearl of Africa Travel Expo and the country’s tourism industry will no doubt capitalize on the new honours, which are timely as even Europe’s major tourism trade shows now being to unfold, starting with FITUR in Madrid next week.
With ten national parks and even more game reserves across Uganda, an equatorial country, the source of the longest river in the world, the Nile, Africa’s largest fresh water lake, Victoria and many other lakes like Albert, Edward, George and Kyoga, is Uganda seen as one of the most diverse countries in Africa and a biodiversity hotspot of the highest order with over 1.000 species of birds.
The fabled Mountains of the Moon, locally known as Rwenzori Mountains, is the only ice capped mountain range in the entire Africa and on the bucket list of many mountaineers and alpinists from around the globe.
Tourism is one of the country’s highest foreign exchange earners and job providers and seen as a way out of economic challenging times before in 2020/21 oil will begin to flow from reserves discovered about ten years ago.
The Uganda Wildlife Authority, guardian of the country’s wildlife, will be present at #POATE2017 as will be the Uganda Tourism Board and the who is who of Uganda’s and East Africa’s tourism private sectors.
