It was long in coming since former Tanzanian President Kikwete laid the foundation stone of the new terminal at JNIA in Dar es Salaam back in April 2014.

Construction faced major challenges along the way and completion of the much needed new terminal got delayed by a significant margin.

Finally, earlier this week, was the new terminal officially commissioned and opened by current President Magufuli and international traffic will now be handled through the new terminal, giving passengers relief from the overcrowded old Terminal 2. The new facility is expected to cater comfortably for 6 million passengers per annum while the overall airport capacity including the old terminals is anticipated to be around 7.5 million passengers.

The old international terminal is now due for refurbishment and technical upgrading and will then, according to information received, be used for domestic flights. Final confirmation is however awaited about general aviation and beach and bush airlines currently operating out of the initial Terminal 1 of the airport and once available will be shared here with ATCNews readers.
