New birds for Brussels Airlines European routes

BRUSSELS AIRLINES SET FOR SHORT HAUL FLEET RENEWAL

(Soon to be a sight of the past)

Information received from Brussels Airlines confirms aviation grapevine talk that the airline’s fleet of AVRO 85’s and AVRO 100’s will be progressively retired and replaced by new Airbus A320 and A319 models. The presently 12 leased AVRO aircraft are due to leave the Brussels Airlines fleet with at least four gone by the end of the 2016 summer season and the remainder then leaving as replacement aircraft arrive.

This aircraft type was popular with travelers for the quick boarding and de-boarding and the lower noise levels in the cabin and served a range of European routes out of Brussels.

An early arrival of an Airbus A320, branded in the now famous livery of comic hero Tin Tin, will be supplemented by the arrival in April next year of two A319’s before the fleet exchange will be completed by mid to late 2017.

Passengers from East Africa’s SN destinations Entebbe, Kigali and Bujumbura can look forward to taking a ride in the new birds come April next year and may take some nostalgic pictures of the AVRO’s, in case they travel on one to their final destination in Europe, while they still fly in Brussels Airlines livery.

In a related development has Brussels Airlines shifted one of their Bujumbura flights to Entebbe where an additional Wednesday flight will bring the BRU – EBB services to four a week.
