New book promotes hiking holidays on Reunion island

NEW BOOK DESCRIBES REUNION’S HIKING TRAILS

(Posted 25th June 2015)

Vanilla Island member Reunion, the French Indian Ocean island between Madagascar and Mauritius, offers over 1.000 kilometres of marked hiking trails across the rugged interior and along the shore line, making it a paradise for those seeking an active adventure holiday.

A new book was just published to showcase the variety of trails and describe what hikers can expect, hoping to attract yet more tourist visitors to Reunion.

5.000 initial copies were printed of the book, which was written by the head of the island’s eco tourism centre Roland Dutel and illustrated by naturalist artist Sandra Le Francois. The book will be distributed free of charge at the various tourism offices across the island as well as the mountain club, besides small hotels and B&B’s located along the trails.

Major emphasis was paid when preparing for the book on the choice of locations, bringing the expertise of locals and tourism professionals to bear while the descriptions took into account the character of the heritage hikers were to experience as they made their way across the island.
