INTERAIR ANNOUNCES FLIGHTS TO DAR ES SALAAM
(Posted 28th June 2014)
Interair of South Africa has announced that they will begin flying from Johannesburg to Dar es Salaam, initially three times a week. The airline will use a Boeing B737-200 in a two class configuration of 12 business and 91 economy class seats and flights will operate every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
Flights are due to commence with immediate effect, raising questions how well prepared the airline is in regard of marketing their new services in both Tanzania and South Africa.
From regular aviation sources in Dar es Salaam it is also understood that Tanzania’s ailing national airline Air Tanzania intends to sign a code share deal with Interair to allow them sell tickets to and from South Africa, a destination they cannot fly to themselves due to lack of aircraft.
This now puts three operators on the route between Dar es Salaam and Johannesburg, Fastjet, South African Airways and the latest addition Interair, with Mango of South Africa also flying to Zanzibar on scheduled services. Travel between the two countries has been made simple by waiving Visa requirements for their nationals, which allows South Africans to travel for beach vacations to for instance Zanzibar without having to obtain a Visa in advance, unlike as is now threatened by Kenya, while Tanzanians can enter South Africa for up to 90 days on a tourist Visa issued free of cost on arrival, a measure which has already left an impact on increased trade and tourism business for both countries. Both countries are members in the Southern African SADC trade bloc. Happy landings to passengers and crews of Interair!
