New lakeside resort launched near Mwanza

TANZANIA’S LAKE ZONE TOURISM PROMOTION GETS BOOST WITH LAUNCH OF NEW RESORT

(Posted 01st July 2017)

The Wag Hill Lodge & Spa was formally launched yesterday at the shores of Lake Victoria, about half an hour’s drive outside the lakeside city of Mwanza. The Chief Guest on the occasion was the Chairman of the Tanzania Tourist Board Mr. Thomas Mihayo along with the Managing Director of the Tanzania Tourist Board Mrs. Devota Madachi.

Invited guests – this correspondent was unable to attend the function as prior commitments had been made already towards the Precision Air inaugural flight between Dar es Salaam and Entebbe later today – were after the formal part of the function was over, treated to a dhow tour along the lakeshores, able to not just see the resort from a different perspective but also witness the rich birdlife seen along the shores of Lake Victoria.

Seven luxuriously appointed tents, some right at the shoreline, were named after commonly seen birds:

  • Sacred Ibis
  • Black Cranes
  • Sand Plover
  • Pied Crow
  • Sand Piper
  • Black Bishop
  • Klaas Cuckoo

Additional accommodation is on offer with four cottages, again named after birds seen around the resort:

  • Little Egret
  • Hamerkop
  • Cliff Chat
  • Fish Eagle

A so called Royal Villa then provides the non plus ultra luxury with four en suite bedrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, dining room, a fully equipped living room area including sound systems and TV and a private swimming pool only accessible for Royal Villa guests.

The lodge does provide transport from and to the airport in Mwanza at a nominal fee and Mwanza can be reached by air from Dar es Salaam, Kilimanjaro and Arusha with Precision Air, Fastjet, Air Tanzania and Auric Air giving multiple options of how to travel to Mwanza.

Congratulations to the owners of the new resort on this momentous day and plenty of paying guests from here on!
