Sources close to the Seychelles Civil Aviation Authority have confirmed that they have now put their first ever Airbus, an A320 named ‘Amirantes’ on their aircraft registry under registration number S7-AMI.
The plane joined the Air Seychelles’ fleet in November last year on lease from partner Etihad, painted in Air Seychelles livery but still registered in Abu Dhabi / UAE and was immediately deployed on the newly launched routes from Mahe to Dar es Salaam, Mumbai and Antananarivo while also serving the existing route to Mauritius. Additional flights to Mumbai, Antananarivo and Mauritius then saw a second Airbus A320 arrive on Mahe in April, boosting the Air Seychelles fleet to four jets – the two other one’s being of Airbus A330-200 make, ‘Aldabra’A6-EYY and ‘Valle de Mai’A6-EYZ – besides a number of DHC Twin Otter turboprops for inter-island domestic scheduled services to Praslin and charters to a number of other islands
It is understood that the airline may transfer more of its leased jet fleet to the Seychelles’ aircraft registry in coming months, a move no doubt encouraged by SCAA as it gives them direct oversight for aircraft on their registry.
Air Seychelles is owned by the Government of Seychelles to the tune of 60 percent while Etihad, the national airline of Abu Dhabi, owns 40 percent since the part privatization in 2012.
