| Goodbye 2016 and Hello 2017! The New Year is already well and truly underway but we’d like to take the opportunity to reflect on some of the highlights from the past year! |

- A 12% increase in visitor numbers with 36,250 total visitors
- 52% of those visiting in 2016 were Rwandan Nationals
- Achieved over USD 1,350,000 net in park revenue, up by over 10% on 2016
- Karenge Bush Camp moved north overlooking the spectacular Kilala Plain
- Ruzizi Tented Lodge maintains five star rating on TripAdvisor

- Over 1,330 local students & 170 local leaders visited as park of the annual environmental education programme
- Over 2,400 students from 35 Rwandan Schools or institutions given free or discounted entry
- 3rd Annual Lions Cup Football tournament: 49 matches were held between 40 teams with a total audience of more than 25,000 people
- Over 279,238,239 RWF spent in the local community on salaries, purchasing of building materials and food, hiring and technical support and community activities. Approx USD $340,000
- 11,800 tree seedlings planted on the grounds of three schools bordering the park

- 210 local staff employed in the park and 65 casual staff on a regular basis and 17 interns had training in 2016
- Over 100 kms of road graded & over 50 kms of new road created
- Lion population more than doubled from original 7 to 16 individuals
- Completion of the rhino boma and preparation for bring black rhino in 2017
- Second sanctuary fenced created and 60 Grey crowned cranes brought as part of the rehabilitation programme

- Poaching continues to decline with just 7 people arrested and only 2 evaded arrest
- More than 4,500 Patrols conducted in 2016, an increase of more than 1,000 on 2015
- Rangers visited Kenya, Zimbabwe, Malawi for training
- Extensive training in Akagera with all rangers Certified as Trackers
- Digital radio network installed and 24-hour control room is operational
