UCOTA UNVAILS NEW WEBSITE

www.ucota.or.ug one of the organisation websites was overhauled and given a face-lift on word press platform. The new site lists almost all authentic cultural tourism products in Uganda and lead attractions like National Parks that are located close to them. The site is user friendly and loads faster which qualities are expected to give the website visitors enjoyable time as they search for information.Read more

UCOTA NEW STRATEGIC PLAN 2017-2021 UNVEILED

UCOTA new strategic plan 2017-2021 was unveiled on the 30th March 2017 at Golf Course Hotel Kampala. Community tourism is a sector that continually evolves and UCOTA focuses on continued excellence in her service provision to the membership, through – capacity building, marketing, advocacy, networking, resource mobilization and conservation of resources from which the communities derive tourism services they offer. KAFRED Win To Do! 2017 Awards

The TO DO! Award for social responsibility is given to organizations around the globe that practice tourism which is responsible not only socially but also environmentally. The Studienkreis für Tourismus und Entwicklung (Institute for Tourism and Development) decided in 1995 to organize the "TO DO! Contest for Socially Responsible Tourism" and to invite entries from all over the world. The TO DO! is awarded for projects, measures or products which are characterized by the active participation of the local population and fairness in the way the projects interact with all the stakeholders involved in the development of tourism. KAFRED becomes the second Ugandan organization and only 12th in Africa to win this prestigious international award that has been running for over 20 years. The first Ugandan program to win this award was the UCOTA Pearls-of-Uganda Initiative in 2012. Read more

State Minister for Tourism Wildlife and Antiquities pays courtesy call on UCOTA

State Minister for Tourism Wildlife and Antiquities paid a courtesy call on UCOTA. During the visit a range of issues regarding community and cultural tourism development were discussed. The visit was in line with the UCOTA new strategic plan 2017/21. AS UCOTA works towards achieving our mission 2021, “To promote community-based tourism through tourism enterprises capacity building, conservation of natural and culture resources and policy engagement that benefits communities in Uganda”. UCOTA Receives (FredsKorpset) Fk Fellows

Two fk fellows come in as we bid farewell to the dual, Joan and Hamza after their one-year stay in Uganda. Like the out-going, the new participants Ibahati and Zani are from Tanzania Association of Cultural Tourism Organisations (TACTO) and Kenya Community Based Tourism Initiative (KECOBAT) respectively. The incoming fk participants together bring with them over 5 years of community tourism development experience, having worked with community tourism enterprises in their home countries. Read more

Lake Mutanda Eco-community Center (MECC)

Located 6 kilometers from Kisoro town on the southern shore of Lake Mutanda in South-Western Uganda. This eco-friendly lodge is affiliated to Mgahinga Community Development Organisation (MCDO) also a Community Tourism Enterprise at the gate of Mgahinga National Park. MECC runs a suit camp with three tents each fitted with beds. In addition to cabin accommodation, camping facility on well trimmed lawn is also available.Read more
