Registration of Community Based Tourism Enterprises (CBTEs).
UCOTA is spearheading inventory development of all community Based tourism enterprises (CBTEs) in Uganda. All managers of CBTEs that have not registered are encouraged to register their CBTEs through any of the following; (1) UCOTA websites; ucota & info, (3) Phone (direct calls/ sms) 414 501866, 0772657700, 0712500019 or physically at the office (See map). The registration information includes;
Name and type of enterprise, location, ownership (if community number of males/females), contacts, services offered and prices, number of staff, number direct and indirect beneficiaries and community development projects supported by enterprise.
Why register?
- To plan for better service delivery by both government and UCOTA e.g capacity building and marketing.
- Be part of the National CBTE inventory

HOMESTAY OF THE MONTH
Judith Rutaro Homestay
Judith Rutaro homestead is located along the Mbarara-Kasese road on your way to queen Elizabeth National Park. If you use a taxi from Mbarara/ Ishaka or Bushenyi ask the conductor to drop you at Hakitoma stage. You will then walk for about 500 meters on the left into the village from the highway. The home seats on a small farm of bananas, coffee, fruit trees and other food crops. Read more
Community of the month
Rwenjeru Campsite
Rwenjeru campsite is located in Rwenjeru village, near Lake Mburo National Park on the road heading to Katengyeto gate of Lake Mburo National Park. The campsite offers a camp ground, guest house with three self-contained rooms and village tours. The location is surrounded with a fertile farmland made up of gentle hills and shallow valleys where the domestic and wild animals access water. The activities and experience at the site are based on Ankole traditional culture and the long horned cattle inherited from the Bachwezi from 1520 AD. Read more
Nine months of Jica volunteer in Lutembe, UCOTA
June 2016, marked the end of the JICA volunteer, Kenta Hirose, with BHETA in Lutembe village at the shores of Lake Victoria. Kenta arrived in Uganda September 2015, had a 2 week-orientation which prepared him for cultural shocks most people experience in totally new societies and well as familiarising him to local food and simple Luganda words.
Kenta’s work agenda entailed enhancing BHETA capacity to sustainably conserve the Lutembe wetland through development. During his term at Lutembe Kenta accomplished the following; Read more
What is new for travelers to Queen Elizabeth National Park in 2016!!!
What do you know about the rural communities of Uganda? Here is an opportunity for you to be the first to know!!!! The community of Kikorongo has put together an experience packaged in a village guided walk. It is a new village experience for visitors to Queen Elizabeth National Park, located at Kikorongo Junction, 22km from Kasese on Mbarara road, next to Queen’s Pavilion. It is such an easy experience to consume within about 2-3 hours. This unique community experience showcases a set of beauties, social life and culture of the area adjacent to this park. It has been designed in a way that Queen Elizabeth National Park remains in the background of every part of the tour but generally, the trail show cases the local way of life. The tour also demonstrates community coexistence with the Elephants and other wildlife crossing from the park. Read more
What do you know about Kabaka Mwanga II
From as early as April every year, Christians from around the world start planning for their pilgrimage to Namugongo, Uganda for the annual famous Martyrs Day every 3rd June. The pilgrimage is a commemoration of over 40 believers that were hacked using machetes, and speared to death while others were tied and burnt to death by the kingdom’s Royal Chief Executioner, Mukajanga following the orders of his master Kabaka Mwanga II. These are the eminent Uganda Martyrs who were also canonized as saints in 1964 by Pope John Paul VI. Pilgrims for this day come from as far as Europe. Most interesting are those that make their way to the celebrations on foot from as far as Zambia, Tanzania, Congo, Sudan, Rwanda and Kenya.The number of Pilgrim is said to grow year after year with the highest numbers reported in the recent past one of 3rd June 2016.
