New Cubs Born in Our Area

We are extremely excited to announce the birth of three lion cubs in our study area. Jeneria discovered them this month and has been monitoring them closely to ensure they are not disturbed by livestock or people.

"Because of the excitement," he said, "I almost threw my camera. I was shaking all over and it took me so long to take the first photo."

The birth of each cub within our area is cause for celebration. The lion population in Samburu is a key link between lions to the south and those further north. We will be keeping a close eye on these little cubs and can’t wait to see what lies ahead.

Junior and Samson Win Art Awards

Junior, the 13 year old "Lion Kid," and Samson, our resident wildlife artist, each won a Mask Prize – an award supporting creativity and innovation for youth in Kenya; sponsored by the Rivers Foundation. Their artwork will be exhibited in London in October. We are so proud of these two young conservationists.

Strategic Planning

This month, we underwent an intensive strategic planning session. Led by two conservation practitioners from the U.K. who are longtime friends of Ewaso Lions, our team reviewed and analyzed every aspect of our program and operation. We have mapped out the next few years and could not be more excited by the prospect of pursuing our mission to conserve lions and other large carnivores by promoting coexistence between people and wildlife. The process is ongoing, and we will share more updates along the way.

Our team has been having incredible carnivore sightings lately near our camp in Westgate. Wild dogs, lions and this huge leopard has shown up again. He is known around our Camp as "The Giant"!
