FOOD WILL BE AT THE CENTRE OF THINGS IN #ZANZIBAR’S #STONETOWN NEXT WEEK

Over 30 hotels and restaurants in Zanzibar, including the Zanzibar #Serena Hotel and the neighbouring #Hyatt are expected to take part in a Food Festival due to be held next week, the organizers have said.
The six-day event, which starts on Tuesday next week is a brainchild of the Ministry for Information, Tourism, Culture and Sport in Zanzibar and of Mr. Garry Friend, General Manager of the Hyatt Regency in Dar es Salaam who used to manage the Hyatt on the island until his transfer to Dar earlier in the year.
The food festival seeks to promote domestic tourism and attract an increased number of foreign visitors, according to the Minister for Information, Tourism, Culture and Sport in Zanzibar Mr. Rashid Ali Juma. ‘We want to give the visitors an opportunity of testing various traditional food items from different countries‘ he said earlier in the week.
The festival will be held across Stone Town, represented by various participating restaurants and cafes. This year will also include a 2-day ‘street food’ venue at Forodhani Gardens, already known for its evening activities of street food vendors who meet a growing public demand for local food and delicacies.
The Stone Town Food Festival is expected to become a haven for foodies and this year’s event will also introduce ‘food tours’; for those who would like to explore the town some more and explore and discover its hidden food gems.
