Nigel Vere Nicoll | Southern & East African Tourism Update

After more than 30 years of exceptional leadership, Nigel Vere Nicoll will step down as Group Managing Director of ATTA on 19th December 2025, marking the close of an extraordinary chapter in African tourism.

Nigel’s vision and diplomacy have shaped ATTA into the respected voice of African travel it is today. He will hand over his executive responsibilities with ATTA and Experience Africa Events to the new Group CEO, before continuing as President of the Association, offering strategic counsel during this transition.

As James Haigh, ATTA Chair, shared: “Nigel’s immense charm and innate common sense have guided ATTA through decades of evolution and challenge. His ability to unite our diverse industry around shared purpose, always with warmth, humour, and humanity, has left an indelible mark on all of us.”

On behalf of the entire ATTA community, we thank Nigel for his remarkable service, friendship, and unwavering commitment to African tourism. His legacy will continue to guide and inspire the next generation of leaders shaping the future of our industry.

Adds the ATCNews’ founder:  ‘I have known Nigel since my early days in Kenya in the 1970’s and have always been impressed by his love for Africa – same as here even though he returned to the UK and I stayed on – and his professionalism in all he did was remarkable and exemplary. He will be missed at the head of ATTA but like myself, retirement can offer new opportunities and at our level one really continues to bring expertise and knowledge to bear, whenever the situations so demand. I wish my friend Nigel the very best in the future!
