Your daily dose of bad news about poaching, wildlife and environmental
crimes from around the world …

in the spotlight today ……………………

Ivory responses: full of sound and fury, signifying nothing extract: At another CITES meeting, in 2011, the Chinese delegation successfully had NGOs expelled from the conference room for the discussion about elephants. Dr Meng later told a National Geographic reporter that the reason for China’s ire was an EIA report revealing that 90 per cent of ivory on the Chinese market was illegal, adding that while he conceded ‘80 per cent of EIA’s report was true’ he felt “they should have come to us first”.http://eia-international.org/ivory-responses-full-of-sound-and-fury-signifying-nothing (NA comment: Read this and see for yourself the despicable, underhand behaviour of the Chinese CITES Management Authority – the same MA so comprehensively defended by the CITES Secretariat and Standing Committee. How much longer will YOU allow this? Whose side are the Secretariat and Standing Committee on – China’s? Remember this: earlier this year the CITES Secretary General gave China a ‘Merit Award’. BTW this is the same Management Authority who were complicit in the import of 130 chimpanzees and 10 gorillas – something else the Secretary General defended. Is it any wonder we are losing the worlds wildlife – and most of it to China?
