Gorillas behind bars to show them off instead of more Chinese coming to
Uganda or Rwanda to track them?
Bad news just continued to roll in …

in the spotlight today ……………………

Welcome to Shanghai Zoo’s indoor gorilla ‘exhibit’. If this looks bad to you (and if it doesn’t, we suggest you check your pulse), imagine what it is like for the gorilla with nowhere to escape people staring and laughing at it. Not even in China would the public be allowed to laugh at prisoners on death row, but it’s okay to do it to and make money from defenceless animals like gorillas.

BTW. A few years ago CITES CHINA approved the importation of 10 wild-caught baby gorillas from Guinea. To catch the ten about 50 adults would have been slaughtered – all to provide exhibits like this one in China. The ten babies have never been seen in China and are believed to have been killed because they were found to be carrying a disease harmful to humans. What are your thoughts about CITES CHINA and their friends in the Secretariat who say China has done nothing wrong – even though, to this day, baby chimps are used in commercial circus-like shows, which is a clear breach of the convention.

NOT FOR NOTHING IS CITES KNOWN BY SOME AS …

CITES (Chinese Influence Terminates Endangered Species)

STILL NO REPLY FROM CITES PHILIPPINES CONCERNING THEIR HIGHLY SUSPICIOUS

ORANGUTAN TRADE WITH CHINA.

These http://www.cites.org/eng/cms/index.php/component/cp/country/PH are the officials being secretive about the trade. What are you now thinking?

Solitary orangutan in solitary confinement.

Achim Steiner UNEP is responsible for CITES and its shortcomings.

How many animals have been murdered or caught alive while he’s been in charge?

“The objective of CITES is to ensure that wild fauna and flora is not unsustainably exploited through international trade.” says John Scanlon, CITES http://cites.org/eng/cites_sg_wto20

Shocking; Chinese trafficker arrested with 340 tusks and 65 rhino horns in Mozambique. At least 235 animals would have been killed to gather that amount of horns and ivory. http://mgafrica.com/article/2015-05-14-shocking-chinese-trafficker-arrested-with-340-tusks-and-65-rhino-horns-in-mozambique

1.3 tons of elephant ivory and rhino horn found in Mozambique Police in Mozambique have seized 1.3 tons of elephant ivory and rhino horn — the equivalent of 235 dead animals — in the country’s biggest ever find of illegal wildlife products, local media said. A Chinese man was arrested on the outskirts of the capital Maputo at a house where the stash was stored, police said in a report published by the news agency AIM.

HAVE YOU READ OF ANY MAJOR RAIDS ON IVORY TRADERS IN MAINLAND CHINA ? No? neither have we.

HAVE YOU BEEN WONDERING WHY CHINA HAS NOT BEEN SANCTIONED ANYTIME OVER THE PAST 10 YEARS FOR ITS ILLEGAL WILDLIFE TRADE? Yes? So have we.

DO YOU BELIEVE THE CITES SECRETARIAT PROTECTS CHINA? Yes? So do we.

HAVE YOU LOST ALL CONFIDENCE IN CITES OFFICIALS (NOT THE CONVENTION) WORLDWIDE ? Yes? so have we. NEGLIGENT OFFICIALS GIVE THE GOOD ONES AND CITES A BAD NAME, DON’T THEY?

DO YOU BELIEVE ILLEGAL WILDLIFE TRADERS BECOME EMPOWERED BY WEAK CITES OFFICIALS AND LAW ENFORCEMENT IN GENERAL? Yep? So do we.

Thought for the day: What changes the world for the better is the passion of certain individuals, not governments, not big organisations.
