Private Forest Owners are trained in conservation farming
Private Forest Owners in Murchison-Semliki landscape (western Uganda) have been trained in conservation farming. This was done in partnership with NARCG (Northern Albertine Rift Conservation Group); a group of conservation organisations working in the Albertine region, under the Murchison-Semliki REDD+ project.
Conservation farming training involves using the best practices to realize high yields while conserving the soil. ‘We have trained 30 community monitors new farming techniques and cultivating forest friendly cash crops in order to reduce on the impact they exert on forests as a result of agriculture. These will pass on the same skills to other farmers.’ says Chimpanzee Trust Conservation Officer, Nebat Atuhura. |
