EMIRATES RELEASES DETAILS ON FLEET RENEWALS – OUT WITH THE OLD AND IN WITH THE NEW

Emirates, Dubai’s award winning national airline, presently serve the East African airports of Entebbe – once a day, Nairobi and Dar es Salaam – both twice a day, using Boeing B777 aircraft.
Amid murmurs from passengers that these routes are only served with the older models of this aircraft type has Emirate now gone on the offensive and announced the retirement of 26 aircraft in 2016 and a further 26 aircraft over the years 2017 and 2018. Of these 26 aircraft which will leave the fleet next year and which will very likely be sold, are 9 B777’s with the remainder drawn from various Airbus models.
The airline will then add 36 brand new aircraft next year, among them 20 Airbus A380 and 16 Boeing B777-300ER’s, giving them a net fleet gain of 10 aircraft. Emirates presently flies some 244 aircraft but has a whopping 262 new aircraft on order, including 150 of the two variants of the yet to be built Boeing B777X. A further 42 new Boeing B777-300ER’s are due for delivery before around 2020 the new B777X will enter service.
Also on the order books are another 71 Airbus A380 which makes Emirates the largest customer for the world’s largest passenger aircraft.
