400 GRADUATE IN HOSPITALITY AND TOURISM COURSES AT RWANDA’S UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY AND BUSINESS STUDIES

Over 400 students of the former Rwanda Tourism University College, now known as the University of Technology and Business Studies or in short UTB, graduated yesterday in Kigali after completing their courses.
Information relayed speaks of the graduates having studied for their degrees in travel and tourism management, hotel and restaurant management while others took courses in business information technology or underwent vocational training courses.
Launched in 2006, as reported here at the time, did RTUC fill a crucial gap in manpower development for the hospitality and tourism sector in Rwanda, before renaming into UTB last year as the scope of studies widened.
More than 4.200 students are presently accredited at the university in the two campuses in Kigali and Rubavu.
Rwanda has in recent years made great strides to improve training for both school leavers as well as for the existing workforce in hotels and the tourism industry at large in order to raise service standards across the board. RDB, the Rwanda Development Board, through its Tourism and Conservation Department, has been at the forefront of these developments, working hand in hand with Rwanda’s Workforce Development Authority.
