IIPT 30th Anniversary Year Projects Launched at World Travel Market In addition to the IIPT 30th Anniversary Global Summit (article 1 above), IIPT used the WTM platform to launch a IIPT Global Peace Parks Project with a goal of 2,000 IIPT Peace Parks circling the earth by 21 September 2017 and a IIPT Travel for Peace Program inviting travel agencies, tour operators, hotels, airlines and other sectors of the global travel and tourism industry to join with IIPT in encouraging every traveler to be an “Ambassador for Peace” by practicing the IIPT Credo of the Peaceful Traveler and the ethic inherent in the iconic Padre Johnson portrait of the Global Family reminding us that we are “One Earth One Family.” (Please note the IIPT Credo of the Peaceful Traveler at the bottom of this article). The WTM platform was also used to launch an IIPT Global Peace Parks Project with a goal of 2,000 IIPT Peace Parks circling the earth by 21 September, 2017 – the UN International Day of Peace. The Global Peace Parks Project builds on the success of a 1992 project commemorating Canada’s 125th birthday as a nation. As part of Canada 125, IIPT conceived and implemented “Peace Parks across Canada” that resulted in 350 Peace Parks being dedicated by cities and towns from St. John’s, Newfoundland to Victoria, British Colombia. The Peace Parks were all dedicated on October 8, 1992 as a National Peace Keeping Monument was being unveiled in Ottawa and 5,000 Peacekeepers passing in review. Each park had a ‘bosco sacro’ – a peace grove of 12 trees, symbolic of Canada’s 10 Provinces and 2 Territories as a link to one another and a symbol of hope for the future. Of the more than 25,000 Canada 125 Projects, Peace Parks across Canada was said to be the most significant. Mr.Thomas Steinmetz, Publisher, eTurbo News and Chairman, International Coalition of Tourism Partners (ICTP) spoke in support of the IIPT Global Peace Parks Project and announced ICTP as a partner in promoting the initiative. Ms. Leslie Dance, Vice President Marketing, Hawaii Tourism Authority (HTA), announced the intentions of HTA to launch an IIPT Peace Parks across Hawaii Project with a goal of 75 cities and towns dedicating a park to peace in commemoration of the 75th anniversary of Pearl Harbor on December 7. Mr. Tajamul Hussain, Chief Strategy Officer for CheckINN TV announced an ambitious “World Expedition for Peace” traveling to 100 countries on six continents to promote “Peace through Tourism” and dedicating an IIPT Peace Park in each of the countries visited with the endorsement and support of IIPT. Persons interested in more information on either the “IIPT Travel for Peace” Campaign or the “IIPT Global Peace Parks Project” are invited to email ljd. Following World Travel Market, IIPT Founder and President, Louis D’Amore attended the International Travel Crisis Management Summit, also in London. Reflecting on the day’s proceedings, Mr. D’Amore stated, “IIPT was born with a vision of travel and tourism becoming the world’s first global peace industry – and the belief that ‘every traveler is potentially an ‘Ambassador for Peace.’ Clearly, a world at peace with itself and with nature would be the best solution to International Crisis Management.” Grateful for the opportunity to travel and experience the world and because peace begins with the individual, I affirm my personal responsibility and commitment to:

IIPT Partner ‘The Cultural Angle’ to Offer Seminars on IIPT Travel for Peace Campaign IIPT in cooperation with Skål International has launched a global ‘Travel for Peace’ campaign as one of its major initiatives for the forthcoming 30th anniversary year (2017), which aligns with the UN International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development (and Peace). In this context IIPT is proud to be working with Dr. Birgit Trauer, Founding Director of The Cultural Angle (www.theculturalangle.com) in growing the number of travellers embracing the role of ‘Ambassadors for Peace.’ The Cultural Angle is dedicated to working with individuals and organisations that represent the diverse sectors of the travel and tourism industry in offering interactive seminars and workshops for themselves and/or their clients to foster and encourage peace through travel and tourism. These seminars and workshops aim to provide travellers with new perspectives for interacting with people and the world around them in promoting an appreciation of the diversity of our global family and our common home, planet earth. The workshops and seminars foster both an inner and outer peace in the traveller’s pursuit of enjoyable and life enhancing travel experiences. Presented in an educational and entertaining manner, the seminars and workshops develop knowledge and skills that foster empathy, tolerance and respect as a way to contribute to further understanding, embracing and appreciating the cultural diversity of our human family. The overall approach and framework serves to enhance the rewards of travel and benefits for all stakeholders. The Cultural Angle is based on Dr. Trauer’s belief that in this time of immense human migration and socio-cultural upheavals, travel and tourism is not only about the art of travel for one’s own enjoyment but also about creating benefits for others. She sees travel and tourism as a contributor to the art of living together and mutually rewarding connections and relationships, both while traveling and at home. Recent trends reflect a greater desire for more purposeful engagements by travellers with their host communities as reflected in their selection of travel experiences driving the growth of special interest tourism; categories marketed under banners such as adventure tourism, cultural tourism, volunteer tourism, wellness tourism, cruise tourism, food and wine tourism to mention just a few. With the above in mind, Dr. Trauer is now concentrating on sharing her insights gained from working in industry and academia directly with stakeholders in travel and tourism and directly with travellers as well. The Cultural Angle’s seminars and workshops support travel and tourism industry organisations in their alignment with the IIPT Credo of the Peaceful Traveler; the ethic inherent in the iconic Padre Johnson portrait of the Global Family – One Earth One Family; and the UNWTO Global Code of Ethics for Tourism. The underpinning benefit of The Cultural Angle’s seminars and workshops rests in their ability to create new avenues for adding value to existing travel and tourism products and services. This in turn attracts and grows the target market of tourists and travellers wanting to travel with a purpose – to travel as an “Ambassador for Peace.” For more information please visit birgit. Grateful for the opportunity to travel and experience the world and because peace begins with the individual, I affirm my personal responsibility and commitment to:

Cassie De Pecol on final leg of Global Journey after visiting 190 nations as IIPT Ambassador for Peace Cassie DePecol is on course to set a Guinness world record by becoming the fastest person to visit all 196 countries of the world in less than 3 years and becoming the first woman and youngest person to do so. Cassie is currently on the final leg of her journey visiting all the world’s 196 sovereign nations as an IIPT Ambassador for Peace. Prior to Expedition 196, between the ages of 21 and 23, Cassie saved $2,000 between lifeguarding and babysitting (in between studying), to travel to 25 countries on her own. It was during this time that Cassie learned to travel off the beaten path to 8 different countries, working at odd jobs to sustain herself. In Cassie’s own words: “I really took the time to immerse myself in the way of life of these countries while living as a local.”. “But this Expedition has a completely different mission, a different core value, and there’s something to be said about achieving a major goal set fourth for both humanity and oneself. I choose to give myself, my all, on this Expedition, even if it means spending less time in some countries so that I have the funding to get to the next to speak to the students, plant trees, and collect water samples, then so be it. This is my life’s work.” IIPT Founder and President, Louis D’Amore stated: We have been proud to have Cassie traveling the world as an IIPT Ambassador for Peace. Cassie is to be commended not only for her mental and physical endurance and fortitude in achieving this amazing feat of travel, but as well for her administrative and organizational skills in the detailed planning of her journey; obtaining visas; arranging her travel itinerary, schedules and meetings; seeking out sponsors to support and fund her amazing journey; and particularly for her commitment, passion and perseverance in achieving her mission to ‘make the world a better place.’” On completion of her Global Journey, Cassie plans on completing a documentary film and to continue giving motivational talks to University students. In this context, IIPT is proud to announce ‘Tourism Tatler’ as a media partner promoting the IIPT Global Peace Parks campaign throughout Africa. Please see: http://www.tourismtattler.com/downloads/September-2016-IIPT-Peace-Parks-22-23.pdf Tourism Tattler is the official journal of several Africa in-bound travel trade associations, global travel trade exhibitions, and industry award programs. It is published monthly and is circulated free of charge via Newsletter links to international subscribers as a practical source for information on the travel trade in Africa. Information is provided on a wide variety of tourism, hospitality and business related topics, thus providing readers with a better understanding of tourism issues, legislation and legal issues that impact on tourism as well as marketing and business principles and strategies. Its publisher, Desmond Langkilde is also a travel writer, photographer and tourism consultant who specializes in Africa as a travel destination. “Tourism in Africa holds great potential, but to successfully compete against global travel destinations, African countries must adopt responsible and sustainable values, of which peace, heritage and environmental preservation are key. The IIPT Global Peach Parks Project provides a perfect vehicle through which both governments and tourism product owners alike can practically demonstrate their commitment to these values” stated Desmond. As a media partner and member of both IIPT and ICTP, Tourism Tattler is supporting the IIPT Global Peace Park Project by offering extensive editorial coverage to all Africa based tourism stakeholders who dedicate a piece of land and unveil their peace park dedication ceremony to coincide with the United Nations International Day of Peace on 21 September 2017. The IIPT Global Peace Parks project is being implemented in partnership with Skal International and the International Coalition of Tourism Partners (ICTP). It is based on IIPT’s Peace Parks across Canada project commemorating Canada’s 125th birthday in 1992 – when 350 cities and towns across Canada dedicated a park to peace on October 8 as the National Peace Keeping Monument was being unveiled in Ottawa, the nation’s capital and 5,000 peacekeepers passing in review. Each park included a ‘Bosco Sacro’ – a peace grove of 12 trees as a symbolic link with one another, and with nature – and as a symbol of hope for the future. The 12 trees were also symbolic of Canada’s 10 Provinces and two Territories. However, this can be a number of trees that is particularly symbolic to the city, town or village. IIPT Founder and President, Louis D’Amore stated, “Our goal is to circle the earth with 2,000 Peace Parks – all dedicated or re-dedicated on 21 September 2017 – the UN International Day of Peace. We look forward to your city, town or private sector organization joining us on this major initiative in “Building a Culture of Peace through Tourism” as a lasting legacy of the UN International Year of Tourism for Sustainable Development (and Peace) for future generations.” For more information and to apply to be nominated as an IIPT Peace Park, please click here: |
