While power has now largely been restored did both Uganda and Kenya suffer a major electricity outage earlier in the evening when the electricity feed from one of Uganda’s main power stations tripped. With Kenya also receiving power from Uganda did the sudden shortfall in supply trigger an almost instant rolling blackout, sinking many parts in both countries into darkness.

With major transmission lines down did the electricity distributors Umeme and Kenya Power have no ‘juice in the wires‘ to provide to the end consumers.
Kampala and Nairobi, the two capitals, but also extensive other areas, were off power for up to several hours before supply was restored later in the evening in Uganda while several Kenyan sources have affirmed to still be in darkness.
