Precision Air set to add two more aircraft to fleet to meet growing demand

(Posted 30th July 2025)

Precision Air, Tanzania’s publicly quoted regional airline, today announced the addition of two aircraft to its operational fleet in response to operational capacity constraints that had forced
the airline to reduce frequencies and adjust its schedules despite increasing passenger demand.

The expansion includes an ATR 72-500 acquired through a wet lease and the
reintroduction of an advanced ATR 42-600 model, which returns to service after
operational enhancements. The return to service of the ATR42-600 marks a
significant achievement in resolving the capacity challenges the airline has faced
since and during the post COVID period.

This strategic fleet expansion comes as Tanzania experiences record growth in
tourist arrivals, with Precision Air serving as the vital link between the country’s
most popular destinations. The airline has established itself as the carrier of
choice for routes including:

– Dar es Salaam–Zanzibar
-Seronera – Zanzibar

– Arusha – Seronera
– Arusha–Zanzibar
– Nairobi–Zanzibar
– Kilimanjaro–Zanzibar
– Kilimanjaro–Nairobi

The new ATR version 600 is going to enhance Precision Air’s operations in the
Comoros market, where the airline operates domestically giving links for the Grand
Comoros Hahaya and Anjouan.

Mr. Patrick Mwanri, Precision Air’s Group Managing Director and CEO, commented:
These additional aircraft demonstrate our commitment to meeting market
demand while maintaining our high service standards. The ATR 42-600, being the
latest model from ATR, will provide our customers with enhanced comfort through
improved seating and significantly reduced engine noise – elevating the overall
travel experience. With this aircraft back to service, it will position us better to meet
growing travel demand, especially in the destinations that we cannot utilize our
ATR72 fleet

Commenting on the leased ATR 72-500, Mr.Mwanri further said, “This aircraft will
immediately boost our capacity during this period of increased demand. This move
is to resolve the ongoing fleet shortage caused by the global supply chain
disruptions and engines shortages that have impacted our fleet. The recent
disruptions that affected passengers, including flight delays, cancellations and
schedule adjustments were largely contributed by prolonged return to service of
our aircraft caused by the difficulties in engines release and sourcing of parts. We
want to assure our customers that the airline is working tirelessly with its partners
to resolve the issues and minimize inconveniences to our esteemed customers.”
“As an airline that listens to its customers, we remain agile in responding to market
trends while staying true to our core mission of providing safe, reliable, comfortable air travel across Tanzania and East Africa’s key destinations.”.

The additional aircrafts are scheduled to enter service on August 01st  2025,
strategically timed for the peak tourism season. This investment reinforces
Precision Air’s position as Tanzania’s most dependable regional airline and its
commitment to supporting the country’s growing tourism sector.
