Qatar Airways announces Haneda as third destination in Japan

QATAR AIRWAYS ANNOUNCES THIRD DESTINATION IN JAPAN

(Posted 07th March 2014)

Travelers using Qatar Airways from the airline’s East Africa gateways Entebbe, Kigali, Nairobi, Kilimanjaro and Dar es Salaam are offered a second choice when flying to Tokyo as the airline just announced the launch of daily flights from 18th of June onwards to Haneda (HND), using a Boeing B787 Dreamliner on the route for the nonstop service. The 254 seater state of the art aircraft is configured with a dual class cabin, offering 22 business class and 232 economy class seats.

The new service will be in addition to daily flights to Tokyo Narita and the city of Osaka, which in 2005 was QR’s first destination in Japan. This third daily flight by Qatar Airways will also increase the presence of the ‘oneworld’ alliance in Japan, which QR joined in October last year as the only Gulf airline ever entering any of the three leading airline alliances.

The airline’s CEO Akbar Al Baker had this to day when commenting on the new route: ‘The airline has pursued aggressive growth in the Asian market to cater to the demand of our business and leisure passengers. Haneda is a key gateway into the city of Tokyo that will offer passengers a second option to arrive into making it more convenient. Just last year we launched four new destinations in Asia; Phnom Penh in Cambodia, Clark International Airport in the Philippines, as well as Chengdu and Hangzhou in China’.

The announcement comes hot on the heels of Qatar Airways revealing for the first time their new First Class cabin which will feature in the Airbus A 380, of which the airline has 13 on order and the first of which is due for delivery soon. Once the giant aircraft has been delivered it will be deployed on the route to London, though more A380 destinations will be revealed later this year.
